James H. Lapple, The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology

As CFO for The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation and Technology, James H. Lapple provides strategic direction, guidance and oversight for the institute's mission of advancing scientific discovery and education for the betterment of human health.

Lapple joined UF Scripps in June 2022 after 18 years of service to the Rockefeller University in New York. There, he supported institutional research efforts of 75 independent biomedical research laboratories, with an annual $400 million budget. His duties included oversight of research compliance, controller functions, financial strategic planning, treasury operations, institutional budgeting, debt management and support of the university's investment office for its endowment. Over ten years, he oversaw more than $1 billion in capital projects and the issuance of several public bond offerings.

Previously, Lapple served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of the nonprofit Institute of International Education in New York, where he oversaw a $200 million annual budget.

He also served the Ford Foundation as a manager of grants administration and operations, and as senior accountant for international operations. In that position he traveled extensively throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America and Russia.

Lapple has an MBA in finance from Fordham University in New York, and a bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y., as well as a CPA license with the state of New York.
